We are a non-profit, tax-deductible organization. The Primary purposes of our shelter are to receive lost or unwanted animals brought to the shelter, to return them to their owners or place them in good homes; humanely to dispose of those which cannot be so placed; and to educate the public about intelligent and humane treatment of animals.
All animals adopted from the Alger County Animal Shelter must be spayed or neutered for compliance with Michigan law. All potential adopters must fill out an adoption form. If the adoption form is approved, he or she will then take their new pet to the vet of their choice to be altered, if the animal is not already altered. The adopter pays the spay/neuter fee to the Shelter. He or she is given a spay/neuter certificate to take to the vet at the time of the operation. A rabies vaccination is included in the certificate fee.
If an animal is already fixed when it comes to the Shelter, the charge will only be $25.00 for the adoption of the animal.
The Shelter is not responsible for transportation of pets to their new owners. New owners must provide their own transportation. However, please feel free to check with the Shelter personnel first to find out if anyone would be willing to take the pet to you or would meet with you part way. If you have questions regarding transportation, Call (906) 387-4131
